The charcoal and clay serve to ‘trap’ the toxins that are being drawn out of skin, including oil from poison ivy or toxins from stings.  This reduces pain and irritation naturally and helps it repair faster!

FAQs

Q: How do I use this?

A: Apply to the affected area and let it sit for 10 – 15 minutes.  Wipe off.  Reapply as needed if the spot is still irritated.  If you would like to keep it on longer (may be necessary with splinters), cover with a bandage to prevent mess.

Q: What can I use this for?

A: Bug bites, stings, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, acne, splinters.  Some people even use it after being forced to receive a vaccine — right on the injection site.

Q: Why is this so messy? Can’t it be some other color?

A: Unfortunately, the ‘mess’ is what makes it work!  Charcoal makes it black and is a key ingredient to ‘draw out’ the toxins.  We recommend covering with a bandage and washing with soap and water after use. If soap and water do not work, an oil of your choice should do the trick!

Q: Is this the ‘black salve’ that the FDA warned against? Is this even safe?

A: This is a totally different product.  That ‘black salve’ is a bloodroot salve that is used for cancer, and caution is warranted.  This is bentonite clay and charcoal and is perfectly safe!

Q: I’m allergic to lavender, but I need this! What do I do?

A: We recommend trying our Pit Detox Mask instead!  It will work similarly but does not contain lavender.

Q: My product arrived melted. What should I do?

A: The quality of this product is not affected. Simply place the item in the fridge to re-harden it!

This works so well for bug bites! Whenever my children and I get bit, I apply this as soon as possible and the next day, our bites are significantly better if not gone! Ant bites usually make me extremely itchy and have pustules but I recently just applied this after an ant bite, and it stopped it from getting to that point and felt better after a day. Seriously amazing! I need to buy another stick to leave in my backpack for when we go on outdoor adventures so I will never be without it. Yes it is black and can rub off on things, but we just cover it with a band aid.

This stuff is a life saver!! My family and I have this stuff handy at all times while outside and constantly getting mosquito bites. Every time we get a bite we use the black drawing salve and it takes the itch and swelling out almost immediately. Truly is such a necessity for my family!

  3. Mary Jo (verified owner)

Black drawing salve is great. My six year old always asks me for it when he has mosquito bites. I put it on mine also. I have him sit for 15 minutes and then I wipe it off with a warm, wet wash cloth. It gets the big stuff off. There is still some black residue leftover on the skin, but not enough to where I worry about it coming off on other things

  4. Amanda O’Neal (verified owner)

We have used this on bee stings and within the 2nd to 3rd application the stinking and pain subsides! It has also helped me with allergic reactions on the skin from deodorants that broke me out. Love this product!

  5. Teresa Fowler (verified owner)

I was bitten by fire ants while visiting my daughter in SC last year. They call it fire ants because my foot felt on fire and burned. I immediately put this black salve stick on it and it helped very quickly. Thank you soooo much.

This works amazingly well for black fly bites and mosquito bites. I’ve also applied it after finding a tick on my son. It hasn’t worked well for splinters, but those are always in the bottom of my kids feet so I don’t expect much. I’ll be trying again next time I see them with splinters though.

My husband was able to get some old cactus needles out of his legs from years ago by using this stuff! Incredible!!

    Love this stuff!!

  8. Anna (verified owner)

Our kids do not mind using this and ask for it when they are miserable and itchy from bug bites . It doesn’t cause other issues and just seems to give some relief.

  9. Audrey Price (verified owner)

We have used it a ton! Left it on all day for a tick bite which she didn’t complain about it itching once and use it for mosquito bites. My toddler doesn’t scratch at them so it definitely helps with itching.

  10. Julia (verified owner)

Really like this drawing salve as it definitely helps with getting anything painful out of a bite instantly!

  11. Meg (verified owner)

Staple for summertime! We get a lot of mosquitoes every year and this definitely helps relieve the itch, even used it on a poison ivy rash and it helped big time. It does rub off and stain so best to keep it covered, and sometimes is stubborn to wash off but will after a couple washed but definitely worth it for the relief!

  12. Lynda Atwood (verified owner)

This really works! I’ve used it on a small skin infection and on a pimple. It gets the yuk out quickly. Yes, it is black, and yes the black will need to be covered, but that is what makes it work.

  13. Leslie Palmer (verified owner)

This works great! Although beware! It might stain clothing.

  14. Tonia Rice (verified owner)

I can’t recommend this product enough! I am a bug magnet and when I get bitten, I place this on the bite and it takes away the sting and swelling. The only thing I don’t like is that it can get on other items, clothing or other parts of your body. But that’s not enough to keep me from buying and using it!

  15. Ellen Campbell

The black drawing salve really works!! My kids are very sensitive to mosquito bites and it takes away the itch. One morning I put some on several of my son’s mosquito bites and then covered with bandaids to avoid it making a mess. A couple days later we took off the bandaids and the bites were gone! No sign of even a bump! Even my skeptical husband likes this stuff! It also smells really nice. Love that I have this on hand.

  16. Kristen (verified owner)

Love having this on hand! It has helped my daughter and I both with the redness and swelling of mosquito bites. I’ve used for tick bites as well. First aid kit necessity!

  17. Heidi White (verified owner)

This is our favorite drawing salve I’ve ever tired. It goes on so smoothly and helps so much. We’ve used it for tick bites, other big bites, infections, slivers, all sorts of things.
I think my only complaint is just that if we don’t cover it, it goes everywhere. But that’s not a big deal to me, just have to be careful.

  18. Lindsay (verified owner)

This has been great for splinters and tick bites. A little messy just being black but comes off easily with a little olive oil.

  19. Hailey (verified owner)

Works great on bug bites. Stops the itching completely. Cons: it’s very dark colored and gets on clothes/ furniture. I try to cover the area after applying to avoid this.

  20. Hailey (verified owner)

The bugs have been crazy this year! The drawing salve instantly relieves bug bite itchiness. It’s a must have in our house. The only down side is it is very black and does tend to get on clothes and furniture. I’ve tried putting a little bandaid over the spots when I use it.
