How It’s Made

Magnesium chloride flakes are typically made by extracting magnesium from natural sources, such as seawater or mineral-rich brine. The process begins by evaporating the water from the brine to concentrate the magnesium salts. This is often done using solar evaporation in shallow ponds, where the sun and wind gradually remove water, leaving behind a mixture of salts. The concentrated brine is then processed to separate magnesium chloride from other salts, often through precipitation and purification steps. The purified magnesium chloride solution is further evaporated, either through heat or continued solar drying, to form solid flakes. These flakes are then collected, dried, and packaged for various uses, such as in bath soaks, dietary supplements, or industrial applications.
