How is cream of tartar made?

It's made from tartaric acid. It is a byproduct of the winemaking process. It happens as grape juice sits and ferments. While it ferments potassium bitartrate precipitates and forms crystals on the inside of the barrels. Once this happens it can then be collected and processed to make cream of tartar.
