DIY Simple Powder Laundry Detergent

DIY Simple Powdered Laundry Detergent

If you ever feel like you’re pouring your money down the drain using commercial liquid laundry detergent, you’re not wrong.

When we buy liquid detergent, we’re unfortunately paying for water and a bunch of chemicals we don’t want in our homes. Not to mention adding more unnecessary plastic packaging to the planet.

But don’t worry. It can be so much cheaper and healthier for our families and the earth to make our own laundry detergent with this simple recipe.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 bar natural soap (Castile or tallow-based), grated
  • 1 cup washing soda
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • ½–1 cup borax (optional, boosts cleaning power)

How to Make It:

Step 1: Grate the soap finely (a food processor makes this quick). Want to skip the grating? Use our dish soap scraps instead!

Step 2: Mix all ingredients thoroughly.

Step 3: Store in an airtight container.

How to Use It:

  • 1–2 tablespoons per load
  • Use warm/hot water for best dissolving
  • Add vinegar to the rinse cycle as a natural softener if desired

This detergent is not only easy to make, light on your budget, and healthy for your family and the planet, but it also lasts a long time on the shelf.

And if DIY is not in the cards for you right now, our Laundry Detergent keeps it clean and simple for you and your loved ones.
