Magnesium + Calming Herbs
There’s a certain kind of afternoon. The kind where someone spilled something sticky in the backseat. Again. You’ve been on your feet since before sunrise. And everyone... including you... could use a reset.
This is the spray I keep within arm’s reach. It’s gentle enough for sweaty kids, calming enough for your nervous system, and fresh enough to rescue your “crazy mom van” after soccer practice. Simple. Herbal. Effective.
What You’ll Need:
- 1–2 tbsp magnesium flakes
- ½ cup witch hazel
- 1 tbsp dried calendula
- 1 tbsp dried lavender
- ½–1 cup hot distilled water
- Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
- 8 oz glass spray bottle
How To Make It:
Step 1: Make the Herbal Infusion.
Step 2: Place calendula and lavender in a heat-safe jar.
Step 3: Pour hot distilled water over the herbs. Cover and steep 20–30 minutes.
Step 4: Strain well through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer.
Step 5: Let cool completely.
Step 6: Dissolve the Magnesium. While the infusion is still slightly warm, stir in magnesium flakes until fully dissolved.
Magnesium is traditionally used to support muscle relaxation and overall calm, which makes this especially lovely after long days or busy seasons.
Step 7: Combine & Bottle. Add the witch hazel to your cooled magnesium infusion.
Step 8: Pour into a glass spray bottle and shake gently.
Step 9: Store in the refrigerator for extra refreshment.
How to Use It:
- Spray on stinky kids after outdoor play
- Mist under arms (just not immediately after shaving)
- Use on the back of your neck before school pickup
- Spritz car seats or the air in your van for a quick refresh
- Keep by your bed for a calming evening ritual
Calendula is traditionally used to support skin comfort. Lavender is known for its calming aroma and gentle nature. Magnesium may help the body unwind when it’s been “on” all day.
And the best part? You can switch it up. Try chamomile for extra calm. Rose petals for a soft floral note. Peppermint for a cooling summer spray. Sometimes what you really need isn’t a complicated routine. It’s one simple spray that says, “Okay. Let’s breathe.”
