DIY Dandelion Root Tincture
There’s something really grounding about making your own herbal remedies. It doesn’t have to be complicated or perfect… just simple, slow, and doable. This DIY dandelion root tincture is a great place to start if you’re curious about herbalism and want a hands-on project you can come back to over time.
We shared this process in our Instagram reel, and here it is written out so you can save it and make it when the timing feels right.
DIY Dandelion Root Tincture
What You’ll Need
- ¼ cup dried dandelion root (if you’re local to Columbus, Ohio you can get this at our retail store!)
- Vodka (enough to fully cover the herbs)
- A glass jar with a lid (pro tip: line it with wax paper to prevent rust!)
- A strainer or cheesecloth
- A dark amber bottle for storage (helpful, but not required)
How to Make It
Step 1: Add the dried dandelion root to your glass jar.
Step 2: Pour vodka over the herbs until they’re fully covered, with a little extra on top.
Step 3: Seal the jar and place it in a cool, dark spot like a pantry or cupboard.
Step 4: Shake once a day.
Step 5: Let it sit for 6–8 weeks.
Step 6: Strain out the herbs.
Step 7: Transfer the liquid to a bottle and label it with the date.
Step 8: That’s it. No fancy tools, no rush.
Why People Use Dandelion Root
Dandelion root has been traditionally used to support digestion and liver function, which is why many people include it in gentle “detox” routines. In this context, detox doesn’t mean harsh cleanses or extremes… it simply means supporting the body’s natural systems that already help process and eliminate waste.
Many people reach for dandelion root:
- seasonally, especially in spring or fall
- when focusing on digestion or overall balance
- as part of a slow, supportive wellness routine
If DIY Isn’t Your Thing (Totally Valid)
Some seasons are perfect for DIY projects. Others are not, and that’s okay.
If you’d rather skip the tincture-making process, Earthley offers a ready-made option that includes dandelion root along with other complementary herbs traditionally used to support the body’s natural detox pathways.
Our Detox Defense Herbal Extract combines dandelion root with additional herbs, making it an easy alternative if you want similar support without making it yourself.
