DIY Calendula Lip Salve
Ever feel like your lips are so dry they’ll crack if you smile? Dry air and windy winter weather can be harsh on our lips. But you can keep smiling with this simple salve—infused with soothing calendula and rose blossoms for extra lip love.
It's easy to make, doesn't require special equipment, and it’s a fun project for the whole family.
Ingredients (small batch)
- 2 Tbsp Earthley Calendula Rose Oil
- 1 Tbsp beeswax pastilles (for a firmer balm, like chapstick. Use 2 tsp for a softer salve)
Optional add-ins:
- 5–10 drops vitamin E oil (extra nourishment & shelf life)
- 1–3 drops essential oil (optional; rose, lavender, or vanilla oleoresin—lip-safe options only)
Tools
- Small heat-safe glass jar or measuring cup (something with a pour spout is best)
- Saucepan (for double boiler)
- Spoon or stir stick
- Lip balm tubes or small tins
- Optional: Small funnel to make transferring easier
Instructions
1. Create a double boiler. Place a few inches of water in a saucepan and bring to a gentle simmer.
2. Melt oil + beeswax. Add the Calendula Rose Oil and beeswax to your glass jar. Place it in the saucepan and heat gently until fully melted, stirring occasionally.
3.Add extras. Remove from heat. Stir in vitamin E and any essential oils (if using).
4. Pour & set. Carefully pour into lip balm tubes or tins (using small funnel if you have one handy). Let cool completely (about 20–30 minutes).
5. Cap & label. Once firm, cap and enjoy!
Texture Adjustments
- Too hard? Re-melt and add more oil (½ tsp at a time).
- Too soft? Re-melt and add a pinch more beeswax.
Shelf Life
- About 6–12 months
- Store away from heat and direct sunlight
