We formulated our Black Drawing Salve as a solution for bug bites, stings, rashes, poison ivy, acne, splinters, and more! It’s made with activated charcoal, bentonite clay, and lavender essential oil to soothe irritated skin and “draw out” toxins.

The charcoal and clay serve to ‘trap’ the toxins that are being drawn out of skin, including oil from poison ivy or toxins from stings.  This reduces pain and irritation naturally and helps it repair faster!

FAQs

Q: How do I use this?

A: Apply to the affected area and let it sit for 10 – 15 minutes.  Wipe off.  Reapply as needed if the spot is still irritated.  If you would like to keep it on longer (may be necessary with splinters), cover with a bandage to prevent mess.

Q: What can I use this for?

A: Bug bites, stings, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, acne, splinters.  Some people even use it after being forced to receive a vaccine — right on the injection site.

Q: Why is this so messy? Can’t it be some other color?

A: Unfortunately, the ‘mess’ is what makes it work!  Charcoal makes it black and is a key ingredient to ‘draw out’ the toxins.  We recommend covering with a bandage and washing with soap and water after use. If soap and water do not work, an oil of your choice should do the trick!

Q: Is this the ‘black salve’ that the FDA warned against? Is this even safe?

A: This is a totally different product.  That ‘black salve’ is a bloodroot salve that is used for cancer, and caution is warranted.  This is bentonite clay and charcoal and is perfectly safe!

Q: I’m allergic to lavender, but I need this! What do I do?

A: We recommend trying our Pit Detox Mask instead!  It will work similarly but does not contain lavender.

Q: My product arrived melted. What should I do?

A: The quality of this product is not affected. Simply place the item in the fridge to re-harden it!

All I can say is that this stuff is amazing! My poor little 2-year-old got stung on the head by a bee, and after I had picked out the stinger and cleansed the sting wound (which was starting to get really swollen) I remembered that I had this black drawing salve on hand, and quickly applied it to the area. I left it on his head for a couple of hours, and when I gently wiped it away the swelling was completely gone! I was very impressed and grateful for how well this worked to heal my poor baby. I will advise though, this is charcoal based so it can be messy. But overall the mess is totally worth it for how well this stuff works. Seriously, buy this today for your first aid kit!

This salve is amazing! I have used it on splinters and bug bites and it always helps! This is one I make sure to keep on me at all times!

Daughter tried it on acne seemed to help. Easy to use

I used this on my son after some mosquitoes got him overnight, all over his poor little nose. It helped the swelling go down so much faster!

I love having this stuff on hand for my daughter who reacts badly to bug bites and my husband who is allergic to Ivy. I keep one in the house and one in my purse just in case we have a run in with a bug or Ivy. The only down side is that it’s messy so I make sure to cover it up with a bandaid or old cloth while it’s working it’s magic.

This stuff is amazing! My daughter went to camp and came back with what looked like a recluse spider bite onthe back of her neck. She didn’t tell us until about a week after. I panicked when I saw it but I had just gotten the salve in the mail so I told my husband we would give it 1 day of keeping the salve on there and then take her if it didn’t look better in the morning. You guys! It was not as inflamed, less red and I saw the poison/venom/whatever back OUT on the top of her skin. I was convinced. We had her healed within 4 days of using just that!

This is a must have! Especially if you have little one who love to climb trees. My kids get splinters all the time and they can be really hard to get out with tweezers only. I apply this, let it dry, gently wipe it off and the splinter comes right out.

This works great for bug bites!

  10. Janelle Deline (verified owner)

I recently got the black drawing salve and decided to use it on a few problem spots on my face where I was continually having breakouts that I couldn’t seem to get to go away. Well, they are gone! My skin is the clearest its been in years! Wow.

  11. Karen (verified owner)

Drawing salve has been great so far! Helped my daughter’s bug bite to stop swelling and itching (she usually has trouble for days, but felt better after just one night of having this on with a band-aid to cover it). Helped some kind of red bump on my son’s neck, probably a pimple (it was mostly gone the next day).

  12. Dawn

Worked well on hubby’s poison ivy and a spot my son had. The only drawback is the black from the charcoal, really have to make sure you don’t get it everywhere! Hubby forgot it was on his arm and it ended up on his shirt.

  13. Madalyn (verified owner)

Amazing stuff!! If you we’ve get poison oak/ivy, this stuff is a life saver! Heals it almost over night. Takes the itch right out. Super product!!

  14. Carie

I was amazed when I used the Black Drawing Salve on a wasp sting. In the past they have swelled horribly. But today when I was stung I used ice for about 10 minutes then applied the drawing salve- no pain, no swelling!

  15. Lindsay

    Amazing product!!

My 11 year old boy uses BDS all the time. He is always getting into chiggers or some kind of poison (ivy/oak). Whenever this happens he always comes to me asking for the black drawing salve. He says it helps with the itching and the rashes always clear quickly.

  17. harpgirl88 (verified owner)

We use this for infected razor bumps or ingrown hairs, bug bites, and the awful heat/friction pimples my husband gets from work. It really helps the bug bites be less itchy, but the other things need a few applications to really be noticably effective. Sometimes the black doesn’t wipe off easily, which is annoying when it’s something you don’t want to irritate further by washing the black off with a washcloth, so I mainly end up using it only in the evening when it doesn’t matter if a little blackish smear remains for awhile.

I can’t rave enough about this salve! It has been a game changer with bug bites and stings. I bought it in the stick form so that I can bring it with me and pack it easily whenever my family goes out during bug season. It’s easy to use and ACTUALLY WORKS!

  19. Heather Lilly (verified owner)

I have used this on mosquito bites and it’s the only thing that offers relief and pulls out the nasty junk! I put a little dab on a Q-tip and then put it on the bug bite and then cover it with a Band-Aid so it doesn’t rub off on into anything. I have also used this as a face mask for about 15 minutes- so far, very impressed with how gentle yet effective it is. This is a must for travel or emergency kit

  20. BJ (verified owner)

I’ve used this to pull out slivers, insect stings, and help loosen gunk from the big pores on the side of my nose. Weird, I know, but it works and doesn’t have the ethyl-methyl-bad-stuff that’s in the stuff found on store shelves. A definite must have.
