How to Tell If Your Earthley Product Is Within Its Best-By Date

Because our products are made with 100% natural ingredients and no artificial preservatives, they do have a shelf life. While this isn't an exact expiration date, it offers a general idea of how to determine when it is "best-by."

How to read the lot number

We have our Lot Number on all products, which can be found as a 7-digit number either printed on the label or a sticker placed on the container. This will tell the day the product was finished.

An example would be the lot number #2124005.

🟩 The first two numbers will indicate the year it was made.

For the above lot #2124005, the first two numbers are 21 and so it was made in the year 2021.

🟩 The next three numbers will indicate the day of the year it was made using the Julian Calendar.

For the above lot #2124005, the "240" day of the year would end up being the 12th of August.

🟩 The last two numbers will show the batch number made that day.

For the above lot #2124005, "05" would be the 5th batch made that day.

🟩 This would mean that the product was finished on August 12, 2021 and was the 5th product made that day

Shelf Life For Products:

Because our products are 100% natural with no artificial preservatives, they do eventually perish.

The shelf life dates are very loose estimates and products often last much longer.

You can extend the shelf life by storing your products in a cool, dry, and dark area.

Here are our general best-by guidelines:

  • 2 years for all tinctures
  • 1 year for powders
  • 1 year for oils (Gut Health Oil, Earache Ease, Cod Liver Oil, etc)
  • 1 year for topical products
  • 3 years for soaps
  • 2 years for essential oils

A few important notes

  • These timeframes are general best-by estimates.
  • Storing products in the refrigerator may help extend freshness, though refrigeration is not required unless stated on the label.
  • Always check the product before use.

Do not use the product if:

  • it smells rancid or unusually off, especially oil-based products
  • you see visible mold (not just herbal sediment)
  • the product appears contaminated or has changed significantly in color, texture, or consistency

Visible mold is rare, but contamination can happen, especially with repeated contact between the dropper and the mouth or other surfaces.

When in doubt

If you are unsure whether a product is still okay to use, we recommend discarding it or reaching out to our customer support team with the lot number for help.
