DIY: Energy Sugar Scrub

Missing Alt Text

Many of us battle dry skin, and a sugar scrub is a great way to restore moisture. However, many store-bought exfoliates and moisturizers contain synthetic ingredients and preservatives that aren’t always best for our skin or bodies.

Thankfully, making something all-natural doesn't have to be complicated. This easy energy scrub has natural ingredients that nourish the skin.

Benefits

Turbinado Sugar: Turbinado sugar is less processed than regular white sugar and still contains some molasses, giving it a light brown coloring. Because it’s less processed, it has more naturally occurring nutrients and trace minerals like iron, potassium, and calcium.

The coarseness of the sugar exfoliates the top layer of the skin, preparing it to be moisturized. Not only does a sugar scrub help exfoliate the skin, it also helps support your lymphatic system while you rub it across your skin! That gets the lymphatic fluid flowing and moving out those toxins better.

Olive Oil: Olive oil has been used for hundreds of years to support skin health. It is a natural source of antioxidants and healthy fats that nourish your skin. It is also naturally antimicrobial, so it helps the skin maintain its microbiome.

Essential Oils: Essential oils are super-concentrated plant extracts. Their scent and flavor are extremely strong, and they are usually recommended to be diluted if used topically.

  • Peppermint: Peppermint soothes the skin and may increase blood flow. Its minty scent is energizing and awakening.
  • Spearmint: Spearmint supports inflammation and is rich in antioxidants. Its sweet, minty scent is also energizing.
  • Orange: This popular fruit essential oil is made from its peel. It contains vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. The sweet citrus scent is bright, cheery, and energizing.
  • Lemon: This essential oil is also made from the peel. It is high in vitamin C and antimicrobial. Its strong citrus scent is energizing and may provide mental clarity.
