Dry winter air, frequent hand washing, and cold weather can leave skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. This DIY Dry Skin Salve is a simple way to support dry skin using herbs that have traditionally been used in everyday skin care. It’s easy to make, doesn’t require special equipment, and is a great project to keep on hand during the colder months. It makes a great gift too!
Ingredients: • 1 tbsp dried calendula • 1 tbsp dried plantain leaf • 1 tbsp dried chamomile • 4 oz olive oil • 1 tbsp beeswax • 5–10 drops peppermint essential oil (optional)
Instructions: 1. Add the calendula, plantain leaf, chamomile, and olive oil to a glass jar. Secure the lid. 2. Place the jar in a saucepan filled with water and gently heat on the stovetop for 1–2 hours. (A crock pot can also be used). 3. Carefully remove the jar and allow it to cool slightly. Strain the infused oil through a fine strainer into a clean glass jar. 4. Add the beeswax to the strained oil and place the jar back into the hot water until the beeswax has fully melted. 5. Remove from heat, open the lid, and stir in peppermint essential oil if using. 6. Pour the mixture while still warm into one 4-oz salve tin or two 2-oz tins. 7. Allow the salve to cool completely, then store in a cool, dry place.
How to Use: Apply to hands, elbows, heels, or other areas that tend to get dry, especially after bathing or before bed.
This salve is a simple way to add a little extra care to your winter routine.
Enjoy!
