DIY Seasonal Allergy Syrup

The itchy eyes, the endless sneezing, and the constant sniffles - it's enough to make you want to hibernate until the pollen clears. But before you reach for a bottle of over-the-counter meds, have you considered a more natural solution? A soothing, herbal allergy syrup might just be the relief you’ve been looking for.
About the Ingredients
This syrup is made from a few powerhouse ingredients that work together to ease the discomfort of seasonal allergies. There are no harsh chemicals, just natural stuff.
Stinging nettle is your herbal ally if you’re struggling with allergies. It’s been used for centuries to support the body’s natural response to allergens. Think of it like a gentle antihistamine but from the earth itself. What makes it even better is that it is super nutritious on top of its wonderful allergy relief benefits.
Turmeric isn’t just for your curry recipes! Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm the body’s overactive reactions to allergens. The compound curcumin in turmeric is a big player here.
Acerola berry is a vitamin C bomb. While vitamin C is essential for general immune health, it can also help your body deal with seasonal irritants. It’s an easy, natural way to support your body when it's facing allergy season.
Local, raw honey is so much more than a sweet treat! It’s full of enzymes and nutrients that support your immune system. Some believe that honey from local bees can help your body adapt to the allergens in your local environment. You’ll want to keep it raw for the best benefits.
If making your own syrup sounds a bit much, no worries! Earthley offers a pre-made tincture called Sinus Saver, which has nettles, turmeric root, elderberries, dandelion root, and black peppers in it!
DIY Seasonal Allergy Syrup
Ingredients:
- ½ cup of nettle leaves
- ¼ cup of ground turmeric
- 2 tablespoons of acerola berry powder
- 1 cup of raw honey
Directions:
Step 1: Mix the nettle leaves with the raw honey in a clean glass container.
Step 2: Cover the container and let it sit for about 6 weeks. This is when the herbs infuse into the honey, so be patient!
Step 3: After 6 weeks, carefully warm the honey just enough to make it thinner and easier to work with. Keep the temperature below 105°F to avoid damaging the honey's natural properties. A warm water bath is a good method.
Step 4: Strain out the nettle leaves using a clean cloth or fine strainer and discard the herbs.
Step 5: Add the turmeric and acerola powders to the strained honey, then stir until everything is well combined.
Store the finished syrup in a cool, dark place. It will keep for up to 6 months.
To Use:
- Once your syrup is ready, dosing is simple.
- For kids 1-6 years old: Give 1 teaspoon 1-3 times daily.
- For kids over 6 years old: Give 2 teaspoons 1-3 times daily.
- Do not give this syrup to children under 1 year of age. The raw honey poses a risk of botulism at this young age.
- Want to kick things up a notch? Add a dose of high-quality probiotic powder when serving. Probiotics help balance the body’s natural defenses, supporting overall immune health.
