About the Ingredients
Calendula Flowers: A key ingredient in this recipe, calendula has been traditionally used for its calming and skin-healing properties. It’s gentle on the digestive system, making it a perfect addition to this comforting cider.
Apple Cider/Juice: Both apple cider and apple juice offer a naturally sweet base for this drink. Apple cider, in particular, contains antioxidants that support immune health, while apple juice is hydrating and full of vitamin C. Something organic and without added ingredients is ideal.
Honey: A natural sweetener with soothing and antimicrobial properties, honey not only adds sweetness but also helps calm the throat and supports overall wellness. Try using a raw local honey if that’s available to you.
Mint Leaves: Known for its refreshing flavor, mint also aids digestion and helps to relieve any stomach discomfort, making this cider even more soothing. Many kids seem to really love fresh mint and will chew on the raw leaves.
Cinnamon Sticks: Cinnamon is not only aromatic and warming but also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that support immune health and digestion.
Star Anise: Star anise adds a subtle, licorice-like flavor to the cider and is traditionally used for its digestive benefits and warming effects. It is also a wonderful herb to help fight off flu and flu-like illnesses.
