We formulated our Black Drawing Salve as a solution for bug bites, stings, rashes, poison ivy, acne, splinters, and more! It’s made with activated charcoal, bentonite clay, and lavender essential oil to soothe irritated skin and “draw out” toxins.

The charcoal and clay serve to ‘trap’ the toxins that are being drawn out of skin, including oil from poison ivy or toxins from stings.  This reduces pain and irritation naturally and helps it repair faster!

FAQs

Q: How do I use this?

A: Apply to the affected area and let it sit for 10 – 15 minutes.  Wipe off.  Reapply as needed if the spot is still irritated.  If you would like to keep it on longer (may be necessary with splinters), cover with a bandage to prevent mess.

Q: What can I use this for?

A: Bug bites, stings, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, acne, splinters.  Some people even use it after being forced to receive a vaccine — right on the injection site.

Q: Why is this so messy? Can’t it be some other color?

A: Unfortunately, the ‘mess’ is what makes it work!  Charcoal makes it black and is a key ingredient to ‘draw out’ the toxins.  We recommend covering with a bandage and washing with soap and water after use. If soap and water do not work, an oil of your choice should do the trick!

Q: Is this the ‘black salve’ that the FDA warned against? Is this even safe?

A: This is a totally different product.  That ‘black salve’ is a bloodroot salve that is used for cancer, and caution is warranted.  This is bentonite clay and charcoal and is perfectly safe!

Q: I’m allergic to lavender, but I need this! What do I do?

A: We recommend trying our Pit Detox Mask instead!  It will work similarly but does not contain lavender.

Q: My product arrived melted. What should I do?

A: The quality of this product is not affected. Simply place the item in the fridge to re-harden it!

This stuff is great. I have a tube at home and one that I keep in my purse. It is great for fire ant bites, and mosquito bites. As well as other irritants. The only thing is that it gets on everything and can stain it. But this stuff is so worth it.

This stuff is amazing for as many stings and bites as we’ve had a chance to use it on so far! Fire ants, wasp stings, mosquitos – works so quickly! I was most amazed when I was stung by a wasp ir hornet and within minutes of putting this on the pain from the venom going through where I was stung on my finger through my arm was gone! Took a little while for the swelling to go away, but it pulled that venom pain out! My kids and I have also had great success with fire ant bites on our toes. This has been a lifesaver this summer!

I had used the stick a few times on bug bites and to my amazement it worked. While in my garden last week, something got in my jeans and stung me 5 or six times. It hurt like blazes! I also was concerned because I’m allergic to bee & hornet stings to a point where dr said I might have to carry an epi pen. I decided to see if the drawing stick might help, and indeed it did within a minute my swelling went down, and I no longer hurt. Whatever stung me I don’t know what it was, I for sure I know that drawing stick is great. The next day I itched a bit so used it again and it calmed that down as well. The only con is the color gets on clothes.,& looks funny – but if it works …. Who cares

Love this salve! I had a recipe to make it but it was easier to have it in a container that rolls up easily and I did not have to clean up anything. I use it for bites, bumps and end up looking bruised but that just starts the conversation about natural products.

    Works great on ingrown hairs!

  6. Erin Fae

This has lasted us over a year. We use on bug bites, insect bites in general, and acne! Anything that needs toxins to be ‘drawn out.’ My toddler asks for this whenever she gets a bug bite. We love it!

  7. Mindy Ameno (verified owner)

This stuff worked amazingly! Took the itch out of mosquito bites, and it even took the itch out of poison ivy that my husband got into! This is hands-down a must have for summertime!!

  8. sw20 (verified owner)

Love this stuff especially for bug bites! My daughter was a mosquito magnet this summer and got so bit up and was so miserable and itchy. Thankfully I found this (I really did not want to use some OTC filled with ickyness) took the itch right out of her bites! Thanks Earthley!

  9. Cyndi Voss

    My daughter-in-law was stung by
several wasp, she used the black drawing salve & within minutes the pain left & there was no red swollen areas! Love this stuff!

Still pretty new in our house- used it on a few ingrown hairs and hasn’t worked as fast and effective as I would have liked. Will keep using

We’ve used this almost everyday since it came in the mail last week. It works great on bug bites and stings. We used it on ingrown hairs too. Must have.

  12. Emily Diedrich (verified owner)

This.stuff. ROCKS. You can use it on any big bite, sting, zit, or ingrown hair and it does it’s job! It’s a staple around my house! I’d give 10 stars if I could!

SUMMER MUST-HAVE! Seriously. We have several ponds on our property and the mosquitoes are insane. On the days when I don’t use Earthley’s Pest Aside and get bites, I just put this on them and within minutes the itching is gone and it never bothers me again. I’m completely amazed every time I use it. I will say, it works best for me if I use within 10-15 minutes of being bitten. The times when I’ve had to put it on a later time, it didn’t work as well, and I still had mild itching. I also used this a pit detox because I was having some issues under one arm, and the next morning after using it, the skin issue was gone! It’s obviously messy, but definitely worth it when you don’t have Earthley’s pit detox!

  14. Vickie

I love this stick! I was stung by two bees at one spot on my wrist. It was stinging and swelling. I put this on and within seconds the sting stopped. It also reduced the swelling.

We have appreciated this salve so much this summer. We have used it on horsefly bites and bee stings. A friend came to visit us and was bitten by a horsefly and we treated her bite with the salve. She felt such relief that she asked her mom to buy some too.

  16. GEtz (verified owner)

Great to have on hand for bug bites! I’ve also used it for a sliver and seemed to help. It is messy so covering up might be helpful to avoid getting it on clothes, furniture, bedding.

  17. BJ (verified owner)

I’ve used Black Drawing Salve Stick for big and little things that get stuck in my skin. It works really well. The charcoal can get a little messy (at least for me). The color black on a wound is not something we associate with “healing” (LOL!) so it looks a little different when the color is finally visible through the bandaid, but it’s totally worth it. This stuff works like a charm.

  18. Jordan

I have several of these sticks to make sure I have on me at all times! I am in the middle of the woods all the time so I always know I’m getting bit by mosquitoes & risk getting poison even if I so much as look in the direction of the plant! I’m very allergic to poison & ended up having it 2 separate occasions this summer…both on my face! The 1st time I had a huge patch on my cheek & knew I didn’t have to go out anywhere for several days. I keep my cheek black with this throughout the day, night, into next day & by that night it was gone!!!! Never before has that happened. A month later I get it again on my chin & used the BDS right away, did the same thing except by the next morning it was gone! I’m super impressed by this stuff!

This is a must-have in my diaper bag and medicine cabinet! I know the power of charcoal to draw out impurities, so I love having this available in a convenient stick form! It’s so quick to take away a sting or itch. My friend, who is very allergic to mosquito bites and each bite would swell up for days, tried this and was amazed! It drastically controlled and healed her bites. She won’t use anything else now. The only drawback is that with the combination of the black charcoal with the oils, it can stain, so I always make sure to let it dry without touching or have it covered with a bandage while it’s drying.

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! I work with elementary students outdoors and have had 5 ‘stings’ this week. This has reduced the inflammation, reduced the itching and pain.
